Lhaki Group is a diversified Bhutanese business conglomerate founded by visionary entrepreneur Dasho Ugen Dorji more than four decades ago. The group has grown from modest beginnings into a broad network of industrial, manufacturing, trading, tourism, and service businesses that contribute significantly to Bhutan’s economic development.
The group started with a dolomite mine in Phuentsholing in 1973 and later added a crushing plant in Pugli in 1983. It expanded into trading with Lhaki General Stores offering hardware, electrical and plumbing items, and then into construction with Lhaki Construction Pvt. Ltd. as Bhutan developed economically.
One of its flagship businesses is Lhaki Cement, established in the early 1990s in Gomtu, now a major domestic cement producer. The group also developed Lhaki Steels & Rolling Pvt. Ltd., which underwent Joint Venture mode with other steel manufacturing businesses and led to the formation of Perfect Group, which has diversified into several other businesses including trading, innovative product manufacturing and technology. When Bhutan introduced privatization of mineral resources, Lhaki formed Jigme Mining Corporation Ltd. (JMCL) for dolomite mining. However, this was taken over by State Mining Corporation when mining was nationalized.
The group also holds a majority stake in Bhutan Tourism Corporation Ltd. (BTCL), one of the kingdom’s oldest tourism companies. Incorporated in 1991, BTCL is a premier destination management company. It also owns and manages traditionally designed hotels, restaurants, cafes, and camping sites across major towns and cities. In recent years, Lhaki has entered into IT and technology services through units like New Edge Technologies, offering networking, software/hardware solutions and digital data services.
In 2025, Lhaki Group commissioned several industries – Jigme Flux & Refractories Pvt. Ltd in Pugli and Ace Himalayan Ferro Alloys Pvt. Ltd. in Samtse, and quartzite mining company at Gohidara in Samtse.
